Sealants & Fluoride
A few minutes of protection on the surfaces that are hardest to keep clean — mostly for kids, and for anyone whose teeth keep finding cavities.
What it is
Back teeth have deep grooves that a toothbrush bristle is physically too big to get into. A sealant is a thin coating that fills those grooves so food and bacteria can't sit in them.
Fluoride strengthens enamel and helps early soft spots harden back up before they turn into a cavity that needs drilling.
Neither one hurts, neither one needs numbing, and both are quick.
What happens when you come in
- Clean and dry the toothThe surface has to be clean for a sealant to bond. No drilling and no needle.
- ApplyThe coating goes on as a liquid and is set with a light. A minute or so per tooth.
- Check the biteWe make sure it doesn't feel high when you close, and adjust it if it does.

Is this just for children?
It's most common for kids, because the ideal time is right after the adult molars come in. Adults who are prone to cavities can benefit too — we'll tell you honestly whether it's likely to help you.
How long do sealants last?
Usually a few years, and we check them at every visit. They can chip or wear, and if one does we can repair or replace it.
What it costs
We can’t put a number on this page honestly — it depends on your mouth and your plan. What we can tell you is how it works: we look first, we explain what we think you need, and you get the cost in writing before anything starts. We don’t begin work you haven’t agreed to, and we won’t pressure you into treatment you don’t need.
We're out of network with all insurances. We do file your claims as a courtesy, so the paperwork isn't left to you — but what your plan pays back is between you and them, and we won't guess at a number. Bring your plan and we'll tell you what we know before anything starts.
